IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION and INDICATION for ABILIFY:
U.S. FULL PRESCRIBING INFORMATION, including Boxed WARNINGS, and Medication Guide.

Antidepressants may increase suicidal thoughts or behaviors in some children, teenagers, and young adults, especially within the first few months of treatment or when the dose is changed. Depression and other serious mental illnesses are themselves associated with an increase in the risk of suicide. Patients on antidepressants and their families or caregivers should watch for new or worsening depression symptoms, unusual changes in behavior, or thoughts of suicide. Such symptoms should be reported to the patient's healthcare provider right away, especially if they are severe or occur suddenly. ABILIFY®(aripiprazole) is not approved for use in pediatric patients with depression. See More Safety Information

INDICATION: ABILIFY (aripiprazole) is prescribed as an add-on treatment for adults with depression when an antidepressant alone is not enough.

How ABILIFY Is Thought to Work

The exact cause of depression is still unknown, but many scientists believe that an imbalance of certain neurotransmitters (chemicals that send messages in the brain) is a major factor. Neurotransmitters that affect mood and emotion include dopamine and serotonin.

Unlike Most Antidepressants,
ABILIFY Adjusts Both Dopamine and Serotonin

To help treat your depression, your doctor may prescribe an antidepressant. Two common types are SSRIs (Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors) and SNRIs (Serotonin and Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors). As their names suggest, SSRIs are thought to affect serotonin, while SNRIs may affect both serotonin and another neurotransmitter called norepinephrine. ABILIFY is believed to help restore the balance of dopamine as well as serotonin.

ABILIFY (aripiprazole) is prescribed as an add-on treatment for adults with depression when an antidepressant alone is not enough.

Keep in mind that the exact way ABILIFY works has not been fully determined.
